According to the programme, the topic “Healthy lives” includes activities to strengthening global health with pandemic preparedness and response and an improved international health architecture. The overall goal is to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic and to prepare for future pandemics. The G7 want to play an important leading role, primarily with its commitment to and investments in tackling pandemic preparedness and response, as well as strengthening global healthcare structures. Overcoming the pandemic around the world is the most pressing objective, the programme says. Besides accelerating global vaccination and providing support for the ACT Accelerator including its vaccination pillar COVAX, G7 wants to continue to support vaccination rollouts and local vaccination production in developing countries. Moreover, the programme also highlights, that “we want to step up our efforts to tackle antimicrobial resistance (AMR) – the “silent pandemic” that is already under way – and to develop appropriate medical countermeasures.”
