AMR Preparedness Index shows UK and US among best prepared
The Global Coalition on Aging (GCOA) together with the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) have recently issued a report that evaluates the eleven largest economies worldwide in terms of their efforts to counteract the rising threat of antimicrobial resistance. The evaluation report has by now become known as the ‘AMR Preparedness Index’. This comprehensible index specifically describing preparedness to antimicrobial resistance cases is a first in the field of AMR research.
According to the authors, recognition of the AMR crisis has increased, yet there has been a broad failure to match public promises and actual actions to prevent a catastrophic scenario for AMR. The report has shown that the UK and the United States have fared best along with Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, and South Korea. Additional case studies were presented from Australia, Kenya, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Sweden.
