The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are working towards an update of their Antimicrobial Resistance Threats Report in fall 2019.

Originally, the report was published in 2013, and it sounded the alarm to the danger of antibiotic resistance, stating that each year in the U.S., at least 2 million people get an antibiotic-resistant infection, and at least 23,000 people die.

“The updated report will likely have a clearer picture of how many people are affected by antibiotic-resistant infections in the U.S., which will fuel efforts to reduce antibiotic use,” Matthew Wellington, antibiotics program director, U.S. PIRG and U.S. PIRG Education Fund told STAT, a Boston Globe Media company.
