Vivli awarded contract by Wellcome Trust to improve use of AMR surveillance data
The availability of surveillance data on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) makes it possible to assess incidence rates of resistance to various antibiotics globally, nationally, regionally, and at the hospital-level. Furthermore, the data can be analyzed to understand gaps and develop research efforts in order to fill these gaps with antimicrobial products.
Wellcome Trust’s Wellcome-ODI pilot project aims at collecting and openly publishing data on industry-sponsored AMR surveillance programs. Working hand-in-hand with a Steering Committee of industry data contributors, Vivli will set up a plan to boost research using the surveillance data. The Steering Committee together with the Scientific Advisory Board will support the progression of the project.
“Our hope is that the research project will further advance understanding in the medical community, global organizations such as the United Nations and the World Health Organisation, and wider society. We would like to thank the Open Data Institute and all companies and stakeholders who took part in this initiative”, said Rebecca Li, Vivli’s Executive Director and lead for the project. Vivli’s long-time partner Insight Enterprises will govern the technical development of the platform.
