Werner J. Heinz

Head of the Medical Clinic II, Caritas Hospital

Since 2021 Prof. Dr. W.J. Heinz is head of the department for Internal Medicine II at the Caritas Hospital in Bad Mergentheim, Germany. He is expert in infectious diseases, especially for fungal infections.
After completing his studies in human medicine at the University of Wuerzburg he worked at the Juliuspital and thereafter between 200 and 2017 at the medical centre of the Wuerzburg University fulfilling his training internal Medicine, infectious diseases, and haematology and oncology.
Prof. Heinz has an extensive research history, with more than hundred publications in pubmed. He is an author of several guidelines including guidelines of the Infectious Disease Working Group of the German Society for Haematology and Medical Oncology. In addition to these guidelines, his recent publications have covered topics such as invasive treatment, prophylaxis, diagnostics, and epidemiological of fungal infections.
Prof. Heinz is the head of the section for antimycotic therapy of the Paul Ehrlich Society for Therapy of Infections, and a member of the Clinical Working Party of the European Aspergillus PCR initiative.
