Anouk Muller

Consultant Clinical Microbiologist, Haaglanden Medical Centre

Anouk’s work involves several facets of the pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) research of antibiotics. To start with, work is being done to determine the PK / PD index. This is necessary to dose antibiotics in an optimal way. In addition, research is being conducted into how antibiotics behave in different patient groups. In addition to healthy volunteers, intensive care patients or patients with obesity are also being examined. Based on a mathematical model, predictions can be made on the amount of antibiotics needed for optimal treatment in these patients. This is crucial for advice on the dosage of the various antibiotics. In this research there is extensive collaboration with the hospital pharmacy, the intensive care unit, but also with other departments and research groups outside the Erasmus MC. The ultimate goal of this research area is to optimize antimicrobial therapy. She is currently working as physician-microbiologist at Haaglanden Medical Centre in The Hague and in the Erasmus MC for research activities. She also currently represents the Netherlands in the EUCAST Steering committee.
