Project Leader team EDIRA, Sorbonne-Université

Alexandra Aubry, MD, PhD, is Professor of Medical Microbiology at Sorbonne Université and Project Leader of the EDIRA team (“Emergence and Diffusion of Resistance to Antibiotics”) at Cimi-Paris.
She received her medical training at Université Paris Diderot, where she completed her MD thesis on Mycobacterium marinum infections. She subsequently earned a PhD focused on DNA gyrase in Mycobacterium tuberculosis, with research experience in both Paris and London.
Professor Aubry serves as Operational Head of the French National Reference Centre for Mycobacteria and Antituberculous Drug Resistance, as well as the National Reference Centre for Osteo-Articular Infections.
Her research centers on the emergence and spread of antimicrobial resistance, with particular emphasis on multidrug-resistant mycobacteria and Klebsiella pneumoniae. Her team develops innovative therapeutic strategies, including bacteriophage-based approaches, and advances preclinical models for tuberculosis, leprosy and infections caused by the M. avium and M. abscessus complexes. She is also actively engaged in research on neglected infectious diseases such as Buruli ulcer and leprosy, contributing to improved understanding and treatment of complex drug-resistant infections.
